Fascinating Places in Devon

Ancient Oak tree in front of Meavy church

Devon Live has just published a great article revealing 34 secret fascinating places in Devon.  It’s no surprise that Dartmoor is well represented.

You would expect Wistman’s wood, the Warren House Inn and Hound Tor to feature.  But who knew that King Charles used Meavy’s great oak tree to hide from Cromwell’s men or that Lydford Gorge was the lair of Roger Rowle AKA the Robin Hood of the West.

You may already be familiar with the House that Moved in Exeter, but a mysterious front door that never opens or the pub with 11 people buried under the bar!  Further afield there’s a doomed village, secret underground bases from the 2nd world war, Agatha Christie’s hideaway just to mention a few.

If that whet’s your appetite take a look at the full list. There were certainly some surprises for us and it has given us a few ideas for our next stay at Three Pound Cottage, the Dartmoor Holiday Home.
