Picture-Perfect Lustleigh should be 1st Choice for your Dartmoor Self Catering Holiday
Lustleigh is a truly beautiful village that attracts not only visitors but artists and photographers alike, not to mention the occassional film crew. It’s packed with thatched ‘chocolate box’ cottages and has a warm welcoming community. Lustleigh is also one of the very few Dartmoor villages that still have a thriving pub, shop, church and tea room.

Idyllic Welcoming Dartmoor Village
Although the village shop, pub and tea room are all within 2 minutes walk of our Dartmoor self-catering holiday cottage, allow an extra 5 or 10 to have a chat with passers by. Every Tuesday is quiz night in the village pub and all are welcome. Although the highlight of the Lustleigh Calendar is the Lustleigh Show in August, Lustleigh really shines on May Day when the entire village turns out for the festivities.
Lustleigh is like stepping back in time, in a good way, it’s how life should be.

Great Amenities
The village has a well-stocked shop offering local produce as well as everyday essentials. The market town of Bovey Tracey is less than 10 minutes drive away should you need a bigger shop or just a bit of “hustle, bustle”.
For the evenings you want to give the well-equipped kitchen a rest, there’s a fantastic 15th-century pub, The Cleave, serving great food and fine ales. For a lunchtime affair there’s the famous Primrose Tea Room with cream teas, sandwiches and salads to die for.

Lustleigh’s Orchard
Lustleigh’s Orchard is an enchanting place where it’s all too easy to believe in Dartmoor Pixies. It’s perfect for picnics, exploring, dipping toes in the brook or just chasing a ball around!
As well as housing the enclosed children’s play park, the Orchard plays an important role in village life. Not only does the village come together to harvest the Apples, for making cider of course, it’s also centre stage for the May Day celebrations.
Along with Maypole dancing, the May Queen is crowned on a granite throne which sits on the Mayday rock which has the names of the May Queens engraved upon it. The Orchard also hosts the Boxing Day rubber duck race.

Amazing Dartmoor Walks, Stunning Scenery
Our self catering holiday cottage is ideally situated for walkers of all abilities looking to explore Dartmoor, literally from their doorstep. With Lustleigh’s unique location in the Wrey valley, there is an array of splendid and varied walks in the area.
You can take in the spectacular views along the famous Lustleigh Cleave one day followed by a relaxing riverside walk the next musing over the thousands of people and cart horses to use the “packhorse” bridges through the centuries.
For ideas of good walks please take a look at our Walks on Dartmoor, many of which are circular walks from the front door of the holiday cottage.

Plenty To See & Do
If you need a rest from the stunning scenery, there is lots to see and do in and around Lustleigh.
However, if you do feel the need to get out of the village, Haytor, Becky Falls, Hounds tor, Jay’s Grave, The 10 Commandment Stones and Bowerman’s Nose are just a short drive away. As are the towns of Moretonhampstead, Bovey Tracey, Chagford and Ashburton if you need a bit of gentle Dartmoor bustle.
With it’s easy road access, Lustleigh is also the perfect base to explore not only Dartmoor but both South and North Devon which offer dramatically different coastlines, stunning beaches, quaint fishing villages and seaside resorts.
