Devon, the Home of Holidays

2 Coastlines, 2 national parks and 20% More sunshine

Devon holiday homes, welcoming guests for over 100 years

Generally, Devon is 2 degrees warmer than the rest of UK and has 20% more sunshine – Met Office stats!  But it’s not just the warm climate, sunshine, beaches and cream teas that bring people flocking to Devon holiday homes each year.

Devon provides a unique and varied holiday experience. It’s the only County in England with two coastlines and encompasses two National Parks as well as a multitude of Visitor Attractions. It’s a very special place to visit and has been attracting holidaymakers since Victorian times.

Spectacular view of South Devon coast

Devon’s South Coast

Devon’s two coastlines are very different providing a great mix of towering cliffs, long sandy beaches, quiet coves, quaint fishing villages and seaside resorts.

On the South Devon coast there are seaside resorts, such as The English Riviera, with award winning beaches, piers, amusements, even palm trees!  In between these resorts there are a multitude of picturesque coves to enjoy away from the crowds – some are not that easy to get to but that’s a good excuse for a boat trip.

Devon’s North Coast

In contrast, the North Devon coast, facing the Atlantic Ocean, has coastal cliffs, unspoilt fishing villages and wide windswept beaches with choppier waters that draw surfers and thrill seekers alike.

Either coast offers a variety of coastal walks and an array of water sports and activities ranging from angling to coasteering.

Devon’s National Parks

Devon also has 2 National Parks: Dartmoor and its smaller seaside sister Exmoor.  They provide amazing walks with breath-taking scenery along with an abundance of outdoor activities such as horse riding, kayaking and rock climbing to name but a few.

In addition to iconic granite tors, wooded valleys, amazing views, you’ll find ancient sites, clapper bridges, stone circles, picturesque villages and, best of all, great country pubs serving good food with a warm welcome.

Devon’s History

Devon is full of history, steeped in folklore and awash with legends to entertain the children.

Some are well known such as Devonian Sir Francis Drake refusing to tackle the Spanish Armada until he finished his game of bowls on Plymouth Hoe.

Whereas Smuggler stories, pirate Yarns and Dartmoor tales of pixies, ghosts, witchcraft, the devil and strange happenings have been passed down through the generations and readily shared.
